Transwarp was one of the first known methods of Faster Than Light Flight. Like spatial compression, transwarp doesn't actually enable a ship to achieve the near impossible feat of propelling a ship faster than light, and rather allows a ship to skirt the issue by burrowing a ship into transpatial conduits. Conduits are easily detectable and exist commonly due to previous creation of said conduits by the Expletuns. Conduits exist naturally but most used are created by ships. Conduit creation is slower than just transversing them, but still faster than sublight speeds. Due to the extensive transpatial conduit network, creating new conduits is rare and often unnecessary. STNN Conduits are often much deeper than normal Transpatial conduits are the two network are not interconnected. It is unknown the location of the STNN network within Transpace. The transwarp drive serves as two purposes. The first and foremost is to burrow a ship into Transpace. The drive then places a protective field around a ship which protect it from the harsh and volatile nature of transpace. This field is necessary for new conduit creation, and isn't specifically required for transversal of Transpace conduits. Conduits were created by the expletuns during their initial space travel prior to them creating the STNN. Transpatial conduits, both the FTL and STNN are known to have sometimes bizzar time related side effects, which are rare but not unheard of. Most commonly it involves a slightly longer real-time travel time, though the reletive time to the travellers is much shorter. This time dialation phenomenon is not understood at this time and is thought to be proportional to the distance of the actual conduit. Because of this, ships often use short range conduits and hop to their destination. Sublight engines are required for proper transwarp use.
